liner notes
There probably isn't a Pub Song more popular than The Wild Rover. It's just the perfect song for clapping and singing, and tells the wonderful story of the fellow who enjoyed himself immensely, and then was able to wander back home a very rich man. Fanciful, but a darling of every audience.
The Wild Rover
've been a wild rover for many a year,
And I spent all me money on whiskey and beer!
But now I'm returnin' with gold in great store,
And I never will play the Wild Rover no more.
And its no, nay, never! -4 claps
No, nay, never, no more! -2 claps
Will I play the Wild Rover, -1 clap
No, never, no more.
I went into an ale house that I used to frequent,
And I told the landlady me money was spent;
I asked her for credit but she answered me nay,
Such a custom as yours I can get any day.
Then out of my pocked I took sovereigns bright,
And the landlady's eyes opened wide with delight!
She said, I have whiskies and wines of the best,
And the words that I said sure were only in jest.
I'll go home to my parents confess what I've done,
And I'll ask them to pardon their prodigal son;
And if they'll caress me as oft-times before,
Then I never will play the Wild Rover no more!
